Intimate Wedding | Jenna + Zak

You know the butterflies you get when you witness two people who are genuinely and deeply in love interact with one another? This wedding was full of that.

Meet Jenna and Zak. Jenna is the sister of a dear and old friend of mine, and has become a friend herself over the years. She has a kind and brilliant personality. Zak is also kind, as well as fun-loving, sweet, and so totally in love with Jenna. I was honored when they asked me to photograph their wedding.

There's a plot twist here, though. Originally, I was booked to shoot their wedding in June 2018. However, life tends to throw us curveballs, and Jenna reached out to me while I was vacationing in Europe in September of last year to let me know that they actually were getting officially married in two weeks and were going to do a smaller ceremony and reception in November.

Fortunately, I had that date open still, and I was so excited at the opportunity to photograph a smaller, more intimate ceremony. Jenna and Zak are wonderful people, which means they've become surrounded by many other wonderful people in their lives. I knew that this event would be so special, and I was looking forward to doing it during one of my favorite times of the year.

November came around, and I made my way to my old stomping grounds: Olympia, WA. We had some fun playing with light and location at the Olympia City Hall for couple and family photos, before heading to Ramblin' Jacks for the ceremony and reception. I have to say, I didn't know what to expect from a ceremony at this location, but it proved to be super fun and the atmosphere was warm and joyous.

This event was so unique and full of love (Just look at the way they look at each other in those first dance pictures! My heart!). I wish Jenna and Zak all the happiness for all of their years together.

Intimate Wedding | Lexie + Ted

It's now May, and things are ramping up. Wedding season has officially begun! Before I start sharing all the new and wonderful weddings from this year, I want to share a couple more of my favorites from last year. This time, we're talking about Lexie and Ted.

Lexie and Ted are the sweetest, most fun-loving people you'll ever meet. Their total focus on their wedding day was on celebrating and having as much fun as possible. This was very clear from our first photo consultation, when Lexie let me know that the most important images for them were the ones after the ceremony - the images of everyone they loved having fun, dancing, and creating really joyous moments together. This was definitely one of those weddings where I found myself singing (and maybe dancing a little) along with everyone, because the happiness was just so contagious.

Another fun fact about this wedding: It took place at The Village Ballroom in North Portland - which is where my own wedding took place in August 2015! It was quite the trip to go back there and see everything from the other side of the camera.

I have to call out some of the amazing vendors that contributed to this wedding, starting with Lexie herself. She made so many of the pieces for their decorations including the paper flower arrangements and the backdrop for their ceremony.

Vineyard Wedding | Mayan + Derek

Yesterday marked the beginning of April 2018, which I can hardly believe. This year is going by so fast! I'm quite excited though, because the weather is warming up here in Portland, and wedding season is about to start. My first wedding of 2018 is coming up on April 8, and it's got me reflecting on all the amazing weddings I got to be a part of last year.

One of my favorites happened to be for a dear friend. Mayan and I worked together at the Oregon Humane Society a long while back, and when she asked me to photograph her wedding on her godmother's vineyard, it was met with a very enthusiastic, "Hell yes!"

Derek is about one of the sweetest men you'll ever meet, and his love for Mayan is palpable. They were so happy this day, as was everyone gathered to celebrate their love, and the dramatic setting was a perfect fit.
